Have you ever wondered about those large gothic-looking houses on Johnston Street, Annandale? Those large houses with their church-like spires that stand between Kentville Avenue and Rose Street.

Beverley Walsh and Ann Reynolds from Annandale Urban Research Association (AURA) will speak to us of Annandale’s creation and the vision of its founder, English-born building contractor, John Young.
They will share images of those houses, including some that have been demolished and share stories of some of the women associated with them. Women such as Betty Mason of the Annandale Association which fought to stop the demolition of further houses.
Beverley lives in one of those houses, ‘Greba’ and its magic sparked her interest in local history. Ann is a researcher and Wikipedia editor who has created over 40 biographies of Australian women on the site.
Saturday 26 October 10.15 for 10.30 am. Herb Greedy Hall, 79 Petersham Road, Marrickville.
