Louisa Lawson, renowned feminist and publisher of ‘The Dawn‘, 1888-1905 (widely regarded as Australia’s first feminist publication) moved to Marrickville in 1905. She spent the last 15 years of her life in the ‘Old Stone Cottage’ at the bottom of Renwick Street.
Louisa’s biographer Michelle Tucker and local writer and historian Sue Castrique will take us on a guided walk to the site of Louisa’s cottage.

Michelle Scott Tucker is the author of Elizabeth Macarthur: A Life at the Edge of the World (Text Publishing 2018). Michelle was a 2024 Visiting Scholar at the State Library of NSW, and her biography of Louisa Lawson will be published with Text Publishing in 2027.
Sue Castrique wrote On the Margins of the Good Swamp, which was awarded the Nature Writing Prize in 2019. Her book Gumbramorra: a history of water in Marrickville is due to be published in 2026.
