New website feature announced

We have introduced a new page – Heritage Watch – to highlight buildings and sites that are coming under threat by new development.

Marrickville Heritage Society has always maintained that we, as an organisation, do not have a “Not In My Back Yard’ (NIMBY) mindset and are not anti-development. Marrickville and environs are what they are today due to successive waves of development.

Our concern is development which destroys the history of our area or so alters the appearance of a building that they no longer tell us anything of our past.

We hope that by highlighting developments and reporting on the history or culture that will be lost we can remind the people of Marrickville and surrounding areas of their rich heritage and encourage residents and others to call for the preservation of significant buildings and sites.
